About the Project

Reconnecting two communities is at the core of the proposal, Illuminated Passages: Turning Barriers into Gateways on the Near East Side. The project uses artful illumination to beautify an existing railway underpass in efforts to increase safety for pedestrians – providing better access to neighborhood parks and amenities – and in doing so better connect neighborhoods and neighbors of Woodland Park and Eastgate. The tunnel will serve as a place to celebrate and gather neighbors with programs and events.

614 BEAUTIFUL is possible due to the generous support of the City of Columbus, with program support from the Neighborhood Design Center.
